Torsten Laux was born 1965 in Worms/Rhein (Germany).
Educated at the Academie of Music in Frankfurt/Main with Hans-Joachim Bartsch, Reinhardt Menger, Gerd Wachowski and others (church music 1985-1989). He studied there 1990-1993 in the soloist class with Edgar Krapp (concert examination in 1993) and 1994-1996 in Saarbrücken with Daniel Roth and Bernhard Haas. Master classes with Petr Eben, Peter Planyavski, Jos van der Kooy, Thierry Mechler, Montserrat Torrent, Elsa Bolzonello-Zoja and Christopher Stembridge and others.
He won first prizes at competitions for young musicians (1981, 1985), and he is also prizewinner at the competition of the german Academies 1988 and at many international organ competitions: 1993 international organ competition in Thuringia, „Gottfried Silbermann“ organ competition in Freiberg/S. and „Bach“ prize Wiesbaden; 1994 „Johann Pachelbel“ prize Nuremberg; 1995 „Gottfried August Ritter“ prize in Magdeburg and „Prix André Marchal“ in Biarritz (France); 1996 International Organ Competition in Odense (Danmark); 1997 „Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck“ competition in Gdansk (Poland) and all three prizes for improvisation („Prix André Marchal“, public price, special prize) in Biarritz (France) - and others.
Torsten Laux was organist at the Great Organ of the “Dankeskirche” in Bad Nauheim (Germany). He is teacher for organ improvisation in Bayreuth and since 1999 professor for organ at „Robert-Schumann-Hochschule“ in Düsseldorf.
He performs and is giving Masterclasses in Germany and other european countries, his concerts have been recorded on CD and for radio and television and he is Juror in international organ competitions.
